Manuela and I worked at the Brockport Migrant Education Program in the 1980s. She has had a powerful effect on my life. As a friend, I felt her love and support. As a coworker, I benefited from her guidance and generosity. She was an outstanding example of a social change agent in her dealings with the migrant farmworker community in and around Brockport. From Manuela I learned how to apply my passion for social justice in authentic and humble ways. Together we often visited migrant families and each time Manuela taught me how to use my privilege as an American white, college educated man to truly benefit those whom I was serving. I have carried her love and wisdom with me throughout my life. I am so very fortunate to have shared time together with her.
