Obituary for Hon. Harold H. "Duff" Litteer

Harold passed away peacefully on March 19th at home after battling a long illness at age 79. He was predeceased by his father and mother Harold and Winifred Gemming Litteer. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years Kathleen, his sons and daughters-in-law, Harold (Lisa) and Raymond (Jennifer), his grandchildren Joshua, Kristi, R.J, Angela and Madeline and 3 great grandchildren; brothers Philip(Teri) and Jeffrey (Shirley), his beloved dog Squirt and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Harold/Duff/Dad/Grandpa/Gramps/Pops/Papu/Boss was devoted to his family. Spending time with all of them meant the world to him. He was a caring and compassionate person that was always there to help anyone when needed.

He graduated from Caledonia-Mumford Central School in 1961. He worked at Kodak for 21 years and attended Empire State College in the evenings to obtain his Bachelor of Science degree. He then went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree from Syracuse University in 1990.

Being an attorney was his passion. He had law practices in Batavia and Caledonia, representing people in several courts across the region in all aspects of the law. One of his most cherished jobs was being a Law

Guardian and representing the best interests of children. Harold was involved in many aspects of the community throughout his life. He was a coach and umpire for little league baseball for years as well as the president and director for youth baseball. He served on the board of the Mumford Rural Cemetery, was a volunteer and attorney for the Mumford Fire Department, and was a member of the town zoning board for 22 years. He served 24 years as Wheatland Town Justice where his character was reflected in the firm, compassionate, and sometimes humorous way he ruled from the bench.

Duffy will be remembered by many for his kind and caring ways and his quick wit and sense of humor. He always had a joke to tell and could break the ice in any situation. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time. Special thanks to Rochester Regional hospice care especially his aid Jane M. Also to the Mumford Fire Department for their continued help and service.
