Passed away peacefully on January 9, 2021 at age 88. Predeceased by her parents Grace and Robert Mitchell, her husband Jerome (Jerry), and her brothers Robert and Richard.
Phyllis is survived by her son Kenneth (Cherie) Snyder, and her daughters Bonnie Whiteside and Dale (Jerry) Curry, grandchildren: Jason, Michael, and Daniel Snyder; Thomas, Ashley, and Bradley (Stacie) Whiteside; Sarah (James) Franklin and Molly Curry, great-grandchildren: Ryan and McKenna Snyder; Paisley and Connor Whiteside; Peyton and Liana Franklin; Reagan Bukowski; Alex Craft; Greyson and Quinn Thomas-Saltsman; and Great-great-grandson Bentley Snyder.

Phyllis grew up in Caledonia, and attended York Central School, graduating in the class of 1950. She married Jerry Snyder in October 1951 and bought a home on Middle Road, where they raised their three children. Phyllis worked as a receptionist in the Caledonia dental office of Dr. Clancy, as a waitress at Star Diner (now Peppermints) in Avon, and later at Chloride Electro Networks in Caledonia. She was a longtime member of the Caledonia Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, spending many summer weekends marching in parades and working at the annual Firemen’s Carnival. Every summer she and her family would vacation at the Thousand Islands, with Phyllis often piloting the boat for the water skiers.
After Jerry’s untimely passing in 1994, she had a smaller home built next to their old family home on Middle Road. Phyllis enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and loved her cats and dogs – who can forget Snoopy! She spent a lifetime doing crafts – making bead jewelry, knitting, leather working, sewing, ceramics – and enjoyed making and displaying holiday decorations, especially for Halloween and Christmas. Phyllis spent the last eight years of her life at the skilled nursing facility in Mt. Morris in a wheelchair, but still kept making crafts and working her magic growing plants. She lived a long, happy life, and she’ll be missed by all. We love you Mom, Grandma, GG, and Great-Great-Gram!

Friends may call Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 1-2 P.M. with her service to follow at 2 P.M. at Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 W. Main Street, Caledonia. Interment will be held at Mumford Rural Cemetery.

when I heard of Phyliss’s passing my heart was full of sadness. as a neighborhood assistant I spent every day talking and joking with her. we both had a great love of cats. I know though that she is no longer in pain.

I am sorry to read of Phyllis' passing. I had worked as a PCA at the LCCNR and often stopped into Phyllis' room to make her bed on shower day, pick up something that had dropped out of her reach, repot a plant, deliver a meal, or just to chat. Phyllis always had a dish of candy (usually jelly beans) for us and was always ready for a visitor. I often helped her with her quarter books which she did for everyone in her family. I live in York , belong to the Town of York Historical Society, and am familiar with Jerry Curry as his band often played at the society's square dance fundraisers. I am very blessed to have known his mother-in-law. Phyllis was a wonderful Lady and this world will miss her.

Dale, Jerry, Sarah, Molly and the rest of Phyllis' gang
Difficult end of 2020 and start of 2021 for all, especially with the restrictions due to Covid.
We enjoyed Phyllis' lively spirit and creative talents -- have a few of her ceramic items from her village display of which she was so very proud and happily shared with others.
Phyllis loved holidays. Each Thanksgiving and Christmas she made us happy as she always requested extra "fruit salad" made by me to take back to the nursing home to enjoy later. A simple pleasure which makes us smile.
May she rest in peace.
