York: Jerrold L. Sturm (Jerry)

Jerry went home to be reunited with the Lord on Friday, November 8th.

Predeceased by his parents Louis and Ruth Sturm, first wife Pat and sister Patty Sciandra.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife Mary, children: Marge Sturm, Robert (Barbara) Sturm and Nancy (Robert) Anton, and three beautiful grandchildren Jack, Madeleine and Grace Anton.

Jerry was a man of strong faith, always a positive role model for others. He loved his family, his country and most of all farming! Jerry was happiest when he was on his tractor planting corn or harvesting crops. Jerry always had a smile on his face and kind words for others. People never hesitated calling Jerry for favors because he always said "yes."

In his wish to help others, Jerry donated his body to the U of R for research purposes.
A special note of thanks for the wonderful medical care that he received from doctors Vythi Alagappan and Megan Baumgart and the team of WCC 5.

Calling hours will be held at the Covington United Presbyterian Church, 1701 Craig Road Pavilion, NY 14525, on Saturday, November 16th from noon till 1:30 pm in the Sturm Wing of the church. The Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2:00 pm. Those wishing to donate in memory of Jerry may consider donating to the Wilmot Cancer Center, 601 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, NY 14642, Covington United Presbyterian Church or donating blood.

The soft spoken, kind man, Jerry Sturm will be forever in our hearts and greatly missed by all.

I am so sorry that we missed the celebration of life service for Jerry because even though we did not see each other often he was one of the memorable people of my young life. We had many wonderful neighbors on Ellicott Rd and Rt. 20 but when I was growing up, Jerry stood out to me as one of the kindest, gentlest people I knew. As a teen, I once gave him reason to excuse himself from kindness when my family's part of the fence separating our properties allowed one of his young bulls to break through. After a predictably unsuccessful attempt to cajole the bull back to where he belonged, Jerry arrived with his smile and after a long chase did what needed to be done without complaint about the fence or time spent. After I moved away, my parents and brothers Jon and Dave kept me informed of Jerry's continued kindnesses to them and others. Little wonder that his obituary states that he went home to be reunited with the Lord; to me, he exemplified what a Christian is to be like. Peace to his family as they miss him.

I don't have any specific memories of Uncle Jerry. I have many. The first thing I think of when I think of him is always there. He was a rock. I remember always knowing that he would be there. As a child I knew that being at Grandma's all I had to do is look out the window and I would see him, almost always on a tractor but always working. I remember this same sense of presence in his home. You could feel his influence there and know that he would be there for you. As I grew this knowledge grew. I knew that he was hard working, present and reliable. I knew, without any hesitation or doubt, that he was there for his family, friends and church. I remember him standing behind Marge, Bob and Nancy supporting them as needed pushing them as needed and loving them always. I knew, without a doubt, that he would be there for Grandma, quietly making sure that she had what she needed and wanted. After he retired he still made sure to take care of family, he would stop by checking in to make sure Mom was doing well. Uncle Jerry also stopped by for the hard stuff too. He stopped by to be there for Mom telling her of the passing of a loved one. He always made sure she was ok before he left, being there for her. So guys – I don't have a memory. I have many but more importantly I knew he was always there.
