First my heartfelt condolences to Shirley' family. She was a special person... I met Shirley when I returned to work at the UR as a Senior Immigration Advisor over 11 years ago. Shirl was a darling and I had grown fond of her over the years. She was conscientious, smiling, and always worked well with me and the ISO when we were bringing in a new foreign national temporary worker to work in Physics and Astronomy... Her dedication to the Physics department and this University were not only commendable but unique. I always marveled at how she would trip down the University hallways (and in later years with her O2 in tow.) She would occasionally stop by for a chat with Sumie, Kathy, or me. Although we were saddened by her retirement we all hoped she would have a chance to "enjoy her retirement and her summer home " God bless you Shirley. You will be missed but there is some comfort in the fact that you have gone home to join your beloved husband.

I work for facilities and I did a lot of work in B&L. She was the contact person that I had to speak with mostly. She always had a smile on her face. She was a true professional. We had many talks about this and that and her knowledge always amazed me. She was a warm and friendly face always. For over twenty years I had the pleasure of working for her. My prayers and condolences to her family and friends. The only time I saw her sad was when she lost her love. May she rest with him in peace. God Bless! Greg

Please accept my sincere sympathy in sharing your loss of Shirley, a wonderful woman who truly made the world a better place. Our paths first crossed at the University of Rochester when I transferred to the Registrar’s Office in 1979. My role included putting together the undergraduate course schedule, assigning classrooms, and overseeing commencement. Shirley was always helpful, and available to lend guidance and provide support. Well respected by Chairs, faculty, staff, and students, we all knew who really was in charge of Physics & Astronomy. Following my years in the Registrar’s Office, I transferred back to the Personnel Department (now known as Human Resources), though was fortunate to be able to continue working with Shirley on the University’s annual United Way Campaign. Her commitment and dedication to the U of R, along with tireless excellence in all that she did was inspirational. Shirley was a beautiful person, inside and out; her spirit will live forever in the hearts of all those she touched. It is comforting to know she is now in heaven with her beloved husband Jack; always missed, never forgotten, God bless.

My deep condolences with all my heart to Shirley's family. She was a legacy at the Physics & Astronomy and she was also my 1st Supervisor in the UR and I known her for 22 years. We work side by side and I also watch over her throughout the years for I sat in my office facing her office. Memories, Well she was a very sophisticated lady and her favorite color was red and her husband John (aka Jack) was a wonderful person I was blessed to meet him too. The particular job that we had to do every year was Mailboxes and did we had a ball with that job. When we were half way on the 225 mailboxes when we forgot a name we had to go back and start again placing the name in orders until we just got tired through out the years and decided to place the names at the bottom. I still remember when she lecture everyone if she didn't like what she saw and it was priceless I just sat and watch for they had lots of respect when it was about her. We shared laughs, give silent treatments but not for long for we couldn't stay without talking, we went for walks around the quad and admire the birds, the flowers, and all of God's creatures and nature. So many things I can say but to keep it short she will be greatly missed but she is now happy joined with her true love Johh (aka Jack).
God Bless for she is another Angel watching over all of us!
