Obituary for Gary McIntyre

Gary McIntyre
Linwood, NY – Passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019 at the age of 68. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 42 years, Debby (DeVore) McIntyre; his daughter Holly (Jeremy) Hartigan; grandson Max; a second grandson on the way; sister Lynn (Tom) Tiede; niece Brenda (Jeffrey) Beardsley; and nephew Ryan (Carrie) Tiede. He was predeceased by his parents John and Adalyn (VanOstrand) McIntyre.

Gary lived in Linwood his entire life and had worked for Noblehurst Farms since 1973. He loved farming, fixing machinery, and working with his hands, but he found a second calling late in life after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. He beat the cancer back several times and made deep connections with Pluta Cancer Center and his “cancer friends.” In 2009 he threw a benefit for Pluta at Noblehurst, raising more than $26,000. In 2010 the Rochester Business Journal honored him for his volunteer work with a Health Care Achievement Award. He remained connected to Pluta, volunteering at events for years.

An avid photographer, Gary loved sharing his talents and learning more about his hobby turned passion. He was too humble to call himself an artist, but his photos of nature were truly beautiful and will be treasured by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 3 at Covington United Presbyterian Church, 1701 Craig Rd, Pavilion, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pluta Cancer Center Foundation Pluta Cancer Center Foundation, 125 Red Creek Drive Rochester, NY 14623 (plutacancerfoundation.org/donate) or the church.
